What does a therapist do, anyway?!

A therapist:
  •  holds space for whatever emotions, needs, or questions you have.
  •  gives you unbiased answers or new ways of thinking.
  •  points out the ways you are sabotaging yourself or letting others do so.
  •  guides you in researching new ideas.
  •  gives you undivided attention.
  •  provides you with resources for further reading.
  •  helps you manage your relationships.
  •  helps you build your confidence.
  •  validates your lived experiences and meets you with compassion.
  •  can help you understand complex human emotions and interactions.
  •  should not give you advice or tell you what to do.
Therapy is a safe place to work with a non-judgmental professional to improve your self-compassion, communication, self-care and more. It's a place to learn how to stop self-sabotage and negative self-talk. It's a place to heal from trauma, to feel more connected to others, and where you can feel hopeful about your future. I want you to feel well and healthy and supported, whatever stage of therapy you're in.
Let’s talk about it
Good communication skills don’t always come naturally. Sometimes, parts of our history play into our current relationships in ways that are harmful (or minimally, are not helpful!) and having a safe space to explore your patterns, habits, and needs is one way to feel more fulfilled in your life and relationships.
